Penalty for aiding & abetting in a felony hit & run in Norht Carolina?

A friend of ours left our house and hit someone and fled the scene. We gave the cops all the info on the people except his last name, because we didnt know it. Now they say they can charge my husband with aiding & abetting even though the people where caught and are in jail.
