Should I transfer from a Mechanical Engineering program that is not yet accredited?

I am currently a sophomore attending a public university in Texas. The Mechanical Engineering program is not yet accredited, but the chair has said the university intends to apply for a visit by ABET in January of 2012. If things go well, ABET should then come out in the fall of 2012, and the program could be accredited in the summer of 2013. I am on track to graduate in the spring of 2013. From what the chair has said, if accreditation is received, it should be retroactive back to 2011 graduates. Is it unwise for me to continue to attend this university due to this uncertainty? What makes this decision more difficult is that right now I can live at home at lower cost, and if I transfer I will have to pay for an apartment. I appreciate all responses, especially those with experience in such matters!
